So...where are they? What is that thing in the jungle? Who are "the others"? And what the heck do the numbers mean anyway? Any theories?

An email from the creators:
Dear Frequent Flyer -
Welcome to Oceanic Airlines -- and thank you for signing up for a weekly bulletin from the writers of "Lost."
We have just reconvened to begin work on Season 2 of the series - after some much-needed vacation and a highly eventful first year that began with the crash of Oceanic Airlines 815 and literally ended with a bang as Jack, Locke and Kate blew open the mysterious hatch while young Walt was kidnapped by The Others... and yes, they were The Others!
As we set out to dramatize such mysteries as the contents of the mysterious hatch and the uncertain fate of Michael, Sawyer and Jin, last seen treading water among the burning remains of the raft -- we thought you might want to know the writers who will be responsible for bringing you the answers -- and a whole lot of new questions -- during the second season.
In addition to series creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof, Carlton Cuse returns as executive producer. "Lost" is a reunion for Cuse and Lindelof - who worked together on Cuse's creation "Nash Bridges" (Cuse also created "Martial Law" and co-created "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr"). Before co-creating "Lost," Lindelof served as writer/producer on "Crossing Jordan."
New additions to the staff include co-executive producer Steven Maeda, whose previous credits include "The X-Files" and "CSI: Miami," supervising producer Craig Wright, who previously wrote for HBO's "Six Feet Under," and producer Elzabeth Sarnoff, whose previous credits include "Deadwood" and "Crossing Jordan."
Returning from season one are supervising producers Leonard Dick, whose credits include "Fastlane" and "Hack," Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, formerly of "Felicity" and "Popular," and Javier Grillo-Marxuach who previously wrote on "Boomtown" and "The Pretender."
With this team in place, you can be sure that "Lost" will pack on the surprises on year two. As a Frequent Flyer, you will receive regular updates from the writers room -- so watch your inbox...
...and thank you for getting lost with us!
Can't wait for the new season! ;D

where are they? duh, on an island =)) a very strange island, with some sort of mystical bermuda triangle type issues... but an island [actually, they're in Hawaii!! hehehe] What is that thing in the jungle? this thing? coincidental smoke face/eyes from the mechanical security measures that were put on the island. Who are "the others"? decendants of the pirates from the ship we saw stranded 'the black rock', they've been there a looooooong time and have things figured out, useful things... And what the heck do the numbers mean anyway?it's a code... an ancient code from some sumarian text somewhere that has mystical means to call forth the powers of the universe... hehehe... and that's the best i can do on this much coffee, stay tuned for next week's 'pulled out my butt' attempt to answer the mysteries of LOST !!

Aaaah! Put *spoiler warnings* on the thread... this is only starting in Blighty this week and I'm raring to watch it.
(I am talking about the right thing, starring Domenic Moneghan from LOTR (Merry)?)

where are they? duh, on an island =)) a very strange island, with some sort of mystical bermuda triangle type issues... but an island [actually, they're in Hawaii!! hehehe] Can't put anything past you. Is it in another dimension? Are they in pergatory? Whatcha think? I tend to believe that this is some huge complex--alien or what not--that is observing humanity, reading thoughts, and creating things based on wants and needs. What is that thing in the jungle? coincidental smoke face/eyes from the mechanical security measures that were put on the island. Ahhh....I think the key word there is "mechanical." It was making very mechanical sounds in the season finale--like a chain on a wench as it pulled Lock toward the rabit hole or whatever it was. Who are "the others"? decendants of the pirates from the ship we saw stranded 'the black rock', they've been there a looooooong time and have things figured out, useful things... We're on the same page here. And what the heck do the numbers mean anyway?it's a code... an ancient code from some sumarian text somewhere that has mystical means to call forth the powers of the universe... Hmmmm...If the island does have something to do with aliens, math is a universal language. It could be that they are trying to communicate with mankind, give us the formula to warp space and time to travel to their planet (as in the radio broadcast that drew Danielle and her group to the island), but that the numbers are being twisted and used for other purposes that are distorting reality in bad ways. hehehe... and that's the best i can do on this much coffee, stay tuned for next week's 'pulled out my butt' attempt to answer the mysteries of LOST !! Your answers were as good (if not better) than many I've heard.

not pergatory, cuz that would piss off the fans and they know it. another dimension? nah... BUT since we all agree that there's a security system, it's not far fetched to think there's some kind of 'techno net' around the place that prevents radar from seeing, radio getting out, etc. unless you're close enough [i.e. the navy dude that heard the numbers the first time]
i don't really care for chains ;D
i analyze the crap out of my tv =)

The cloaking devise or whatever it is could be what affected the planes systems to begin with. And it would explain why the voice on the radio in the smuggler's plane said exactly what Boone was saying. It was his own voice bouncing back to him. ;D

what if they are part of a videogame?
an online game, or a battery of psychological tests to see how they would react in that situation...
i know they have said it wont be close to the "its all a dream" thing, but i dont know how you explain some of the actions (lock's ability to walk, for instance) other than as a psychological thing.

what if they are part of a videogame? Kind of a Survivor meets Cube kind of thing? Interesting thought. Remember the planet on the "Shore Leave" episode of the original Star Trek? --the one with the white rabit from Alice in Wonderland, Kirk's Irish bully, and the knight the drove a lance right into McCoy? That's what I think the island is.
