This was posted over at the HWA board and thought I would share.
Fun fun fun.
Magus Press' first two releases have been anthologies, featuring works of fiction by authors that I found especially unique. The first is titled Other Things...Other Places and the second--coming this fall--is titled the Sound of Horror. Another anthology--that I will keep anyone interested updated on--comes out in Winter of '08 and will be edited by Joseph McGee, someone I've come to admire.
Soon, www.MagusPress.com will have a pretty sweet e-zine section that's free for anyone who wants to read. For online publication Magus Press pays one cent a word. For short stories featured in anthologies and print Magus Press pays 3-5 cents a word, plus contributors copies.
There are a number of things that I'm interested in looking at for upcoming publications. I love reading, so anything engaging--regardless of if it fits into the confines of any genre--is always welcome, regardless of length. I'm looking for novelettes, novellas, and novels. Please make certain that your pieces are edited better than this post. I enjoy working with new authors as well as more established authors; then there is always that person whose obscure work I read, fell in love with, and I get goosebumps when they send me a new work of fiction.
One thing that I cannot stress enough is that I aim to make Magus Press much more personal than other publishers. Not because I have the time, but because that was my goal in getting into this.
If you have a piece of work that you would like me to consider for publication, e-mail me at davidus_montoyacus@yahoo.com
If you have questions, write QUERY in the subject line. Big letters are appreciated since I am often times incompetent. If you're attaching a submission, be sure to do so in .doc or .rtf format. Write SUBMISSION in the subject line. Once again, incompetent.
I am often inspired by particular pieces to do something new. Other Things...Other Places stemmed from reading two authors who I thought would make an amazing double feature. The Sound of Horror came from receiving stories I thought would work beautifully together and then contacting authors whose vision of the theme I thought would be intriguing. And thankfully, they were.
Question me, interrogate me. Do as you will. I love horror. I love creativity. I love uniqueness. I do what I do because I love it and I would like to include as many people as possible.
One thing that I attempt to do is find a home for each author's work--if not at Magus Press then somewhere more fitting. I've had good experiences and bad throughout my writing career and I aim to give the support that people like Jason Sizemore, Louise Bohmer, John Edward Lawson, Insidious Publications, and a host of others have given me.
