FUTURISMIC
Christopher East, Fiction Editor
Queries: editors@futurismic.com
Accepting submissions again beginning March 8, 2006.
Website: www.futurismic.com/
Futurismic now seeks contemporary science fiction for publication at the website. We're looking for innovative, exciting new stories that use the tools of speculative fiction to examine contemporary issues and take a
look at what's just around the corner. Whether by established professionals or promising newcomers, we would like to see the very best in current SF, with
an emphasis on work that truly connects with and illuminates the fast-paced, fascinating time we live in.
Stories should be compelling and well written, with a strong emphasis on characters confronting or embracing imminent cultural, social, technological, and scientific changes. Post-cyberpunk, Information Age,
and near-future extrapolations will be welcomed -- serious or satirical, straight-forward or gonzo, optimistic or cautionary. We are not interested in fantasy, horror, or more conventional SF themes such as space opera,
time travel, first contact, or alternate worlds. Stories involving aliens will be a tough sell to us, but we will consider them if we feel they're consistent with our vision for the site. For a more detailed description
of what we're looking for, read Christopher East's inaugural essay on the subject.
We will consider works of any length up to 15,000 words. Stories must be submitted via our web form. Note that stories submitted any other way
will not be considered; attachments will be deleted unread. Payment will be a flat rate of US$200.00 per story, on acceptance, for First Electronic Rights. (And by this we mean for publication on the World Wide Web only.)
We are not interested in reprints at this time. No simultaneous submissions, please.
Questions about these guidelines or queries about submitted manuscripts are welcome; please send us an email. Make sure to begin your subject line with
the word "Query." If you don't, it may take us a while to get back to you. We will respond to queries as promptly as possible.
