I've completed work on my long-awaited second novel, Poseidon's Children, and it is currently under consideration with Dorchester Publishing Co., Inc. I recently did an interview where I was asked to give a hint about the storyline: "A hint? Hmmm...well, a marine archaeologist uncovers the sunken remains of an ancient city. Halfway around the world, a Coast Guard officer discovers a bloody yacht drifting in the current, and a vacationing artist witnesses what he believes to be a shark attack. Through the course of the novel, we discover how these events relate to one another." I'm currently at work on several short stories for upcoming horror magazines and anthologies, as well as My third spine-tingling novel: Shadows on the Cinema Wall. For the full interview: www.keepitcoming.net/michael-west.html

is there something we, as fans, can do to encourage dorchester to go forward with poseidon's children? or any of the many horror anthologies where mr. west has submitted? a quick email or letter expressing our interest, perhaps? or would this be of any value, in your opinion?
let us know. i am quite certain the fan base would love to help out, and sometimes its the grass roots organizing that ultimately helps concince the people in charge to do the right thing!

Hello obliv326!
Thank you for your interest. I would love to say that if everyone sent an email to this editor or that, expressing their wish to see more of my work in print, that it would happen. The truth of the matter is that many editors find that type of thing annoying. Many editors have stacks of manuscripts and only a handful of readers. I know of someone who had to wait 2 years before they received a response, although many houses will allow you to shop it around to others if it takes that long.
A good way for fans to help would be to go to your local library and request a copy of The Wide Game, or mention liking my work on any of the various chat rooms or forums that you frequent. The more "buzz" there is about an author, the more likely it is that a publisher will get wind of it and want to sign them.
The anthologies will happen. In fact, I have a deadline of Friday for a story on one of them. As soon as I have more info on them, I will post it. By being published in anthologies and various magazines, it will also help to create that "buzz" the editors are looking for.
I thank you for your support and I hope to have more good news to share soon.

How's SHADOWS coming? It's our next excuse for frequent visits.
And do we have to pretend we're polite strangers? Because I'm cool with that, I'm just wondering.

How's SHADOWS coming? It's our next excuse for frequent visits. Shadows is coming...slowly. I'm about 75 pages into it. Mind you, I was about 200 pages into it when I decided that I needed to go back to the beginning and work a bit more on the characters and their relationships to one another. I like it much better now. The most difficult part for me on any novel is the setup. Once I know my characters and their lives, it gets easy for me to bring in the Big Bad and f*** everything up. ;D BTW: we should have a reading session soon. Bring the Cheez Wiz and cookie dough! And do we have to pretend we're polite strangers? Because I'm cool with that, I'm just wondering. LOL...no, Dave. You can claim you know me if you want to. ;D
