My J-Horror inspired tale "Jiki" has found a home with City Slab magazine. It will appear in the September issue. The magazine also just inked a new distribution deal that will bring it into stores (including B&Ns) nationwide. ;D

would a bunch or rabid glowing fan letters addressed to city slab be of a help to you?

I'm glad you liked the story, Stace. ;D Yeah, of the short stories I have written to date, "Jiki" is my favorite, and I'd love to hear (or read on their site or whatever) that people responded well to it. The more people that read it, that like it, the better it is for me in the long run. Getting my name out there, and keeping it out there, can only further my hopes that my novel will get off that pending pile and find its way to store shelves.

On the City Slab website, there is a place to email comments, and an address to mail comments to. If readers liked the story, please feel free to let them know. I don't know exactly what would happen to me in terms of career boost if all the readers who buy the mag say, "we loved this issue, especially that 'Jiki' story," but I don't see how it could hurt. ;D (Well...I guess you could email or mail comments if you didn't like the story too...but then I'd have to find you. )

(Well...I guess you could email or mail comments if you didn't like the story too...but then I'd have to find you. ) Although... that may not be all bad. It's said that the best writing comes out of one's own experiences, so perhaps the results of this meeting you would force upon a detractor would deepen your prose, especially the bloody bits.

Just found out that "Jiki" has been recommended for a Bram Stoker Award for Outstanding Achievement in Short Fiction for 2006. This is just the first step in the long nomination process, but I am excited. I'll keep you all posted. ;D

I've never made it as far as a nomination, but "Goodnight" was also recommended last year. It just didn't get enough to move on to the first ballot.

Just found out that "Jiki" now has at least 5 recommendations for the Bram Stoker Award! Now, as long as the story remains one the top 10 recommended works (right now it is tied for #1), it will make it onto the first ballot. ;D I will keep you all posted.

mike!
not only will it stay #1, it will win! i cant imagine too many better stories will be written this year. seriously, most writers are lucky to ever be able to write a story this good, but i think we are starting to see that jiki is just one of a number of weapons in the mike arsenal, fired along the way until we get the release of 'poseidon's children' !
congrats mike. its a great story. you deserve it!
btw, have you gotten my emails? i sent a few a couple weeks back after i finished 'the wide game'...hadnt heard fropm you so i wanted to make certain theyd made it. you never know w/my acct
let me know...and congratulations!!!!!
