This message was left on my MySpace site:
"I read 'Jiki' in the first issue of City Slab I was able to get my hands on and I have to say it was a very disturbing tale of love and guilt. I loved it! Well written and evoked a good deal of feeling while I was reading it. Lots of pathos for those of us in love with no money. It also caused me to want to read up more on the Japanese mythologies and inspired a story of my own. Well done and I hope to get the chance to read more of your work in the future."

Richard R. Horton at SFF.net posted a review of City Slab magazine that featured this little blurb: "The best of the new stories, I thought, was Michael West's "Jiki", about a man who becomes a gangster (in Japan) after causing his girlfriend's death, and who then is forced to confront a demon that looks like her." Thanks, Stace. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. ;D Not to sound too modest, but it always surprises me when someone praises my work. I read the first horrible draft, the big lump of coal, if you will, and while I try to chip away at it and mold it into a diamond, I can still see the rough edges.
