Thanks, Deb! ;D
The surgery went well and Stephanie is now home and doing fine. She is a little loopy from the pain meds, but other than that, she is fine. Thanks to everyone for your love and support.

Stephanie is still feeling well this morning. She's wrapped up like a mummy and has a device like a big thermous that pumps cold water into a cuff around her wrappings. The pain meds are still keeping her a bit groggy, but she hasn't been complaining about horrible discomfort. If all goes well, she should be ready to get back into the swing of things on Dec. 28, after her doctor sees her again. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers! I will keep you all posted on her progress. ;D

Had a fun but busy weekend. Friday night, took my sons on a Cub Scout camping trip at a cabin in the woods. Of course, we got there at night, and it was raining, so the entire time we are walking up to the cabin, I'm doing the Friday the 13th music. "Ki-ki-ki-ki...Ma-ma-ma-ma" (You know, growing up, that's what I thought the music was saying, and I was pleased to learn I was right. Last October, when Starz ran a documentary on slasher movies. The composer confirmed that he took the words "kill" and "Mom" and ran them through an echo program.) We stayed up to 2 am playing Risk and I read two of my stories ("The Bridge" and "Goodnight") to the kiddies to scare them to death before bed. Saturday night, went to my parents house for the Colts game. Nearly lost my voice cheering. Can't wait for next Sunday and the title game against New England. They'll be on our turf this time, and vengeance shall be ours! Sunday night, went over to an old friend's house for dinner and a movie with her and her husband. I noticed that they had the complete series of Space: 1999, and I started talking about this episode I remembered seeing when I was about five or six years old, with this huge one-eyed, tentacled monster in a graveyard of spaceships that sucks people into its mouth and spits out charred corpses. Freaked the hell out of me as a child, but I had never seen it again. Of course, we had to sit down right then and there and watch it. It had a little more talk and a little less action than I remembered, but at least I wasn't crazy. The episode, "Dragon's Domain," did indeed exist (after so many years, I was wondering if I dreamed the thing). Anybody else remember being scared by that one?

Woke up this morning and found that it was 6 degrees with a windchill of minus 8. Then I turned on the television and saw the newscasters down in Miami, reporting on my beloved Colts in T-shirts and light jackets. Making some good progress on my story for the Red Light District Anthology. I had a really nice fit of inspiration yesterday. I love it when the muse is up and active. ;D New Bones on TV tonight. Gotta watch that and Inside the NFL on HBO, see who they pick to win the big game. (Not that I don't already know. ) Stay warm everyone!

God, I've waited 22 years to say this: SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!!!! ;D I can remember when the RCA Dome was first built in downtown Indianapolis. It was called the Hoosier Dome back then. The Mayflower Trucks had just brought the team to town and there was a big press conference in the dome that was open to the public. My father took me to that conference, and from that moment, I was a Colts fan. There have been some highs (Peyton's getting the new touchdown record, Peyton and Marvin's record-breaking touchdown pass, the 13-0 start last year, the 9-0 start this year, and many playoff runs), and many lows (a revolving door for coaches and quarterbacks, seasons where we went 1-15 or 3-13, losses to the Patriots in the playoffs), but now...now it has all been worth it. Last night, as I yelled and screamed and high-fived and hugged my brothers and my parents and my sons, it was a beautiful moment, one I hope will be repeated next year. On a related note...this year's commercials were pretty good. The Blockbuster one with the mouse was wonderful, and all of the Bud Lite ads were hilarious. The best, however, didn't come until the 4th quarter: sports.aol.com/nfl/superbowlads?video=40When it came to the end, the "punchline," my brother spit his beer half-way across the room laughing. It was the best spit take EVER!

Today is Ash Wednesday I was going to give up chocolate for Lent, but my wife has talked me into going without my Diet Mountain Dew for the next 40 days. This will be a great test of will power. Normally, I go through a 12 pack of Dew in a couple of days, so I think she did it more in an effort to save on groceries than for the Lord.

What a busy week it has been! ;D Finished a story for the Red Light District anthology, and got that sent off. An editor interested in another of my tales requested a re-write, and I just finished that. And last but not least, a third editor requested that I send him one of my other unpublished stories! So far, 2007 is lookin' good.

Those who know me know that I am a huge fan of the movies, especially horror movies. I've reviewed hundreds of them, even directed a few low-budget projects over the years, and it fills me with great joy when critics and readers alike say there is a great cinematic feel to my writing. Anyway, after much scrimping and saving, I was finally able to buy my first HDTV. And yesterday, I got my Dish Network HD dish all hooked up and discovered a little network called MONSTERS HD. MONSTERS HD is all horror movies all day and all night. Needless to say, I did a little dance of joy. With my DVR, I was even able to record some gems that I can't find, or haven't yet purchased, on DVD. Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, Night of the Creeps (God, how I love that movie!), and Night of the Comet! And last night, they showed the entire "Blind Dead" trilogy! All in the original aspect ratio! All in High Def!!!! ;D I gotta say, I think I've died and gone to heaven.

That sounds cool! I've never had a use for Dish Network, but this might be something to look into!!! ;D It is very cool. Only problem is that MONSTERS HD has so much stuff on 24 hrs a day that I want to record a bunch of it, then I never get a chance to watch what I've recorded.
