Orange. Mike's page is black and orange (the worst color in the rainbow, unless you're coloring, in which case it's yellow, only because it doesn't show up). My posts keep being in orange.
Okay, Mike.
You can have your journal back.

i didnt know you reviled orange so...
i actually like orange. i was just sort of thinking the other day how much i liked sports teams that use orange as a uniform color, generally. there are exceptions, but i tend to like it...
so, if it helps, ill take the bullet and be orange. i kind of like it, and if ityll make timid happy, then im all for it!

The Hills Have Eyes is a "very bright spot"? I'm remembering someone saying that Pumpkinhead was the best horror film since Aliens. And I will go to my grave with that belief. Best demon ever to grace the silver screen. And thanks to the magic of the internet, I have found others who share this view. Viva le Pumpkinhead! ;D And the new Hills Have Eyes was very effective. Oh sure, there were things about it that I did not care for, but on the whole, it did what it set out to do. I was unnerved, and my heart was beating just a little bit faster. This is the same director who did High Tension , which I loved the first 75% of. I'm interested to see what he does for his next project. And then there's Slither, Dave. Slither. Pure...joy. ;D I do wish we had been able to see that one together. I suspect I would have liked it. Should be gone by tomorrow though, so I'll miss it. I wish you had been there as well. I remember us watching Deep Rising together and having a ball! (Except, much of that was unintentional humor, where as Slither is quite intentional.)

I remember us watching Deep Rising together and having a ball! (Except, much of that was unintentional humor, where as Slither is quite intentional.) Good music. I, of course, most relish our experience biking out to see Big Trouble in Little China. That was the laughter equivalent of Aliens. (what am I, Holly Hunter from The Piano? Where's my quote?)

Yes, Jerry's music was often the best part of the movie, no matter how good or bad the movie was. Yes, BTiLC was a blast! I still quote lines from it all the time. My favorite being, "Are you crazy? Is that your problem?" Plus, that was the day I first saw the ALIENS trailer. Good time all the way around. ;D Then of course, there was the time you showed me Ferris. I about burst a lung, I was laughing so hard.

A friend on my Myspace site sent me a survey. It said that if you had seen more than 80 of the 163 listed films, you had no life. I had seen 99 of them! or maybe Well, I did manage movie theaters for some time, plus I write reviews for magazines and websites, so perhaps that lets me off the hook. Still, the sun is shining and it is 70 degrees outside, and I'm sitting here at my computer in my Nightmare Before Christmas PJs and Cthulhu slippers when I could be outside doing...whatever it is people do outside. Well, this morning, I have to change my internet modems out. Switching providers to stop the robbery that is my monthly bill. And I won't be going out this afternoon either. Pacers vs. Nets at 1pm. Go Pacers! Pizza, hotwings, screaming at the TV with my sons...I'd say that's a pretty good life. ;D

I like MySpace. ;D I enjoy meeting other people who share my interests in all things Horror, my love of Asian cinema. It has also been a wonderful tool, exposing my work to those who may not, as of yet, heard of me. I'm not Stephen King, after all. I have one novel, a handful of short stories, and a bunch of movie reviews out there (and more to come on all three of those fronts. ). I don't have the advertising muscle of a major publisher behind me to get the word out. It's all up to me. If you're a member of a small, local band, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. Still, there are those who look at these forums with fear and distrust, people who see only the negative. When I walked in the door last night, my wife showed me our local paper. Right there, on the front page: "MySpace in Dark Side of Internet." The article came complete with quotes from the principal of my own high school! Here's the complete story: www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060424/NEWS01/604240406&SearchID=73242625840049Stories like this want to turn the term "MySpace" into a synonym for evil, but they fail to show the other side of the coin. Yes, there are "bad" people on the Internet, have been since Al Gore invented the thing ( ), but there is great good there as well. I only hope these types of negative reports will not overshadow that.

I've sent off two stories within the last week. ;D One was sent to City Slab ( www.cityslab.com/ ), and the other to APEX Digest ( www.apexdigest.com ). We'll see what happens. I will post any news as I receive it.

Well, I've gone back to the drawing board again on my new novel. The first re-write was because I didn't like any of the characters. Now I do like them, but the pace is far too slow. I really like the way it is starting out this time, however. You still get to know the characters, but they are now doing interesting things. Information comes at you faster, but not too fast for you to comprehend what is going on. I'm really happy with the way it is shaping up so far. ;D Of course, I'm only three chapters into it again, but if the rest of the book flows like this, I'll be done in no time.

Well...I got another rejection. But this one came with quotable comments! ;D "Nice story...a fantastic O'Henry-type conclusion. We really enjoyed reading 'Einstein's Slingshot.'" --Jason Sizemore, Apex DigestJust wasn't what they were looking for right now. As nice as the comments were (and believe me, you rarely get any personal comments, much less nice ones like that!), I must admit that I was really depressed after reading this first thing this morning. I was so happy with this tale, felt so darn good about it. Oh well...I'll do what I always do: Read it through again, tinker with it, and send it back out into the cruel world.

Well, I got a pass yesterday to see an advance screening of The Omen, but I can't go. It's at 10pm on Monday night, and my wife has to work at 11pm. Why would you have a special screening at 10pm?!?! These things are normally at 7pm. I'll tell you why...something they probably don't want you to know...they're still putting this turkey together and they need every last moment to get the prints run before they ship them out. The theaters probably won't have them until 7pm and then the print has to be built up--individual reels spliced together and put onto a big turntable for projection. But fear not, movie maniacs, I will be seeing it on 6-6-06 and will have a review...or a warning.

hey mike
could be that a later show also gives reviewers less time to get a bad review in their particular papers before the film opens.
but do let us know. i, as everyone here, indeed values your opinion!

Another weekend almost over. Had a reading of my latest short story last night. Got some great feedback. Hope to have it ready to submit soon. Also got a very nice rejection letter from Black Ink Horror on another story. It was a wonderful letter, full of praise. In fact, I thought it was an acceptance letter until I got down to the last sentence. Seems it was too close in theme to some other stories they'd already accepted. Oh well, I've already sent it off again. We'll see what happens. GO COLTS!!!!! ;D

Busy week. Polishing and revising a short story, fighting to get time off for World Horror in March, and trying to get all my Christmas ducks in a row ("Making Christmas" from Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas playing in my head as I push my way through the corridors of crowded malls in search of the perfect gifts). And then there's the fact that my wife, Stephanie, is having foot surgery tomorrow. They are going to take the bone out of her toe and replace it with a metal rod. It is supposed to be a short, routine surgery, but she is diabetic and will be under general anesthesia, so there are those little concerns gnawing at the back of my brain. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I will post more info as it becomes available.
