Planning to catch this flick tonight with my brother. Trying to go in with open mind. Anybody else planning on seeing it? Got any love it or hate it preconceptions?

I will probabley wait to rent it when it comes out on DVD. I've never been a big fan of the original series but then I prefer more ghostly type stuff. The previews for this version did look like it might be okay though. I have seen Night of 1000 Corpses, but really didn't want to see The Devils Rejects because it looked like it was about a group of sick, twisted people running around and torturing innocents. I like supernatural horror but don't like the torture stuff myself. It doesn't gross me out or anything, I just think it lacks any kind of good plot.

***********Potential spoilers******************
Let me start out by stating (since no one here really knows me) that I am biased b/c the Carpenter Halloween series are my favorite movies of all time. Plus, I hate Rob Zombie....I find him a complete hack who has simply jumped on the horror/torture porn bandwagon. Anyone can do that....where are the scares? Not there. Carpenter created the ultimate archetypal battle between good and evil. Zombie perverts that by turning mom into a trashy pole dancer with no concept of parental values. He has a deadbeat, foul mouthed, loser living with mom (although well acted). Laurie is changed into a horny, finger screwing bagel rapist. Zombie will say that he wanted to update Laurie's character as a stereotypical girl of today. I hate to break it to him, but I'm around seniors every day (teaching and advising). She is not the stereotypical girl. She lost the innocence factor that made Laurie so appealing. My God that is why she was written as a babysitter. Loomis is a hippee child psychologist that stumbles upon Michael as a child. How convenient. Zombie did his usual shtick with shock value language and cheesy, gory scenes--confusing horror with splatter trash. As stated earlier though Zombie did a fantastic job making Michael more menacing and intimidating in size. The only other saving element was seeing an older, lovely Danielle Harris casted.

Do not think I will watch this one. I am way to big of a fan of the original to see it torn apart.

I met Tony Moran at a Comic Convention today (he played the role of Michael Myers in the first two movies). I overheard him say that he had no interest in seeing the updated version.

That speaks volumes! I think that Rob and Dee Snider should team up and remake Redneck Zombies. Both seem to like filming crap and that movie could use a make over.

As a side note, I asked Tony what his favorite horror films, other than his own, were and he listed Psycho, The Shinning and The Exorcist but said that overall, he isn't a big fan of the horror genre. I was suprised to hear that from him.

First of all, welcome! ;D Second, I should really do an official review on this flick. It took what Carpenter did in about 10 minutes (young Michael killing and escaping from the mental hospital), and made it into an hour-long exercise! THEN, it remakes the first film, but since there is only 30 min. of screen time left, it feels rushed. I've said it before, and I will say it again, if you're gonna do a remake, remake bad movies and make them better. Don't touch a perfect film like HALLOWEEN! (And yeah, the casting of Danielle Harris was great! )
