This movie is a big mess. Messy set design, messy cinematography, messy editing, messy... "plot" and messy characters. A mess. Mind you, it's not unwatchable, it's just clumsy and unwieldy. Boredom sets in, on and off. The leads almost carry it, but they can't. Sorry - get your hopes down.

I've seen the poster for this thing, but nothing else. Looks like I will wait for Blockbuster or Starz.

I've seen the poster for this thing, but nothing else. Looks like I will wait for Blockbuster or Starz. Apparently there is a set of six beautiful posters for the movie, but I didn't even get to see them before they were snatched from the theatre. You know... I know it's Terry Gilliam, but that doen't mean you *have* to watch it. On the other hand, it is by no means garbage - not at all. If it's on and you're around, far from killing you, you might enjoy aspects of it, it's just such a mess. Heck, it might even be educational in that way. Let me rank my Gilliam films, since I do that: Time Bandits The Fisher King Brazil 12 Monkeys Monty Python and the Holy Grail The Crimson Permanent Assurance The Brothers Grimm The Adventures of Baron Munchausen All but the last two are above the "good" line.

I'm with you on Fisher King being his best. What a wonderful film! And Brazil is a close second. Genius movie! I would, however, rank Holy Grail above 12 Monkeys. It's my favorite comedy of all time. Oh yeah, and I loved Baron Munchausen.

No Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas? Brilliant adaptation of the book!

No Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas? Brilliant adaptation of the book! I always forget about that one. To be honest, I've never watched it all the way through.

Yeah, same here. It did look like a good adaptation, but of a book in which I had no interest. People's reactions to the film seem to follow their enjoyment of Mr. Thompson (again - must be a good adaptation), so I missed it.

People's reactions to the film seem to follow their enjoyment of Mr. Thompson... That's been my experience with it, as far as the people who say they really enjoyed it--fans of Thompson. People who say they didn't like it, or in fact hated it, not so much.

Speaks well of the film, really, doesn't it, either way?

having seen it tonight, i must say i agree w/dave. mess would be the most appropriate adjective.
i kept thinking, where is harvey scissorhands when there is actual useful trimming to be done...
btw, i am a fan of most giliam stuff. i would actually not classify any of his stuff as bad...i know its early, but i am thinking i might have to take this one as his worst film so far, at least that ive seen...and i think ive seen them all...
again, not terrible, not even bad, but just messy, like dave said.
