i saw this last weekend, and was brilliantly impressed. the key is to never allow yourself to get used to looking at this film, as every frame is a work of art. somee of this stuff, like the scramble suits, are unlike anything ever seen in the history of cinema.
the story is very much a philip k dick story, meaning its not a mere action story, but mostly about intellectually and ideologically exploring the ideas that make up the setting and story points. if you dont like lots of long, intellectual discussion, which is still pretty fascinating, you prob wont loike this...if you didnt like waking life, you prob wont like this. its the same kind of thing...using the medium of animation to establish a visual counterpoint for the expression of an idea.
i loved it. i would be really interested to see the pre-animated stuff. i hope they put it out w/the dvd.
anyway, i would recommend anyone who would think they might like it. its not any different than what it sems like it will be, and if you are inclined to that kind of stopry, youll prob dig it. but its not for everyone, as a story. i cant imagine that anyone would be able to look at the visuals and not be blown away. the ability to sit in the presence of these images, for my money, is worth every penny.
