Just watched the pilot and all I have to say is WOW! David Nutter of the X-Files directed and it was brilliantly scary. I hope they can keep this up. Did anybody else watch it? Thoughts?

Did you watch last night's show? I gotta say, I'm really liking this thing. Loved the Night Stalker/X-Files style opening. Loved the homage to Carrie (even though I saw it coming, it still made me jump). Can't wait to see what next week holds. ;D

I accidentally missed it, but really was interested in seeing it-- could someone pm me (or board discuss) a non-spoilery premise-- and then spoiler alert an example of the first episode-- and what are the expectations of the other shows? how are they expected or planned to be different? PS-- my karma is lagging. . .

Premise: Two brothers, Sammy and Dean, criss-cross the country in search of their missing father and the supernatural force that killed their mother twenty years before. Along the way, they encounter creatures of ancient myth and urban legend. ;D

[glow=red,2,300]FIRST EPISODE SPOILER ALERT!!!!![/glow]
When they were children, Sammy and Dean's mother went into Baby Sammy's nursery and encountered a supernatural being. When Dad came into the room, he found her on the ceiling and then she burst into flames.
Fast forward 22 years: Sammy is on his way to a full ride scholarship to law school and lives with a beautiful girlfriend. Enter Dean with news that Dad was hunting demons and hasn't come home yet. Sammy agrees to help Dean find him under the condition that he can be home by Monday morning for his law school interview.
After dealing with the "monster of the week" (a Woman in White), they discover that their father has left town and gave the two coordinates to a map location. Dean wants to go there immediately, but Sammy insists on going home for his interview. Dean reluctantly agrees.
When he gets home, Sammy lies in bed and drops of blood fall onto his face. When he opens his eyes, he sees his girlfriend on the ceiling, just like his Mom had been. She suddenly bursts into flames and Dean runs in to pull Sammy from the fire.
Now filled with rage, and wanting revenge against whatever has done this, Sammy forgets about law school and agrees to help Dean find their father.
[glow=red,2,300]END SPOILER[/glow]

I liked the first episode, but after that it seems like they're relying too heavily on Jap horror gimmicks. Blood Mary looked a lot like the ghost from Ringu, and moved like her. I didn't really care for the storyline since it was rather cliche. Someone seeing something that no one else can, but I thought that the scene where Bloody Mary talks to the one character who's girlfriend died and lays a guilt trip on him about her death I thought was well written. If they focus more on the mysterious death of the girlfriend and the fact that the character had dreams about it prior to it happen then it could be a very interesting show. Plus, the disapperance of the father needs to be focused on more. The urban legends is a bit cliche and tired especially after two movies based on urban legends by the same name. They have good acting, direction, and sfx. They just need to have the writers flesh out the major plots (girlfriend and father) and come up with something other then urban legends. Otherwise for me it will continue to be a juvenille show like all the other WB shows.

I agree that some of the urban legends have been done to death, but I love these characters and how they react to the situations they face. "Skin", the shape-shifter episode from Tuesday night, is a prime example. How many shape-shifters have we seen in the history of horror and Sci-fi? But this epy wasn't about the creature, but how it affected the relationship between the brothers. Next week, the hook man on lover's lane.

Anybody catch this last night? It was about a small Indiana town that sacrificed people to a pagen god who possessed a scarecrow every year. We're watching it, and before I can say anything, my wife says,"Is this town named Harmony?" (For those not in the know, Harmony, IN is the town in many of my stories and my first novel.) It really did sound like something I would write. ;D

I watched that episode and it did make me think about the Wide Game. Of course, they had to put it in an apple orchard instead of a cornfield so it didn't look too much like your stuff. Still, I think they should still pay you for the inspiration.

I wish. I would love to have a story credit on a primetime show. Or maybe I could sue like Harlen Ellison did with The Terminator and get them to put "Acknowledgment to the works of Michael West" in the credits. Last night's episode was pretty good as well. The faith healer storyline was done once in a very good episode of Friday the 13th the series, but it did have some nice twists to it. And it was very nice to see Buffy and Angel's Julie Benz again. God...how I miss those shows.
